Movie Releases for the Week of July 3, 2011

Tom Hanks has the first certified summer flop with Larry Crowne. $13 million for the July long weekend is pretty dismal. When Transformers makes more than seven times your opening numbers you know something is really wrong. Glancing at the reviews I noticed words like “bland” and “predictable”.

Too bad. Hanks just doesn't seem to have any luck with features he directs. His directorial debut, That Thing You Do (1996), was a cute movie but it didn't make it's $26 million budget*. I still listen to the soundtrack but I might be the only one.
